POLICIES / PROFESSIONAL INFORMATION
Confidentiality & Safeguarding
I am a BACP Registered Counsellor and work in line with the BACP Ethical Framework.
Counselling sessions are confidential, meaning that what is shared is not passed on to others without consent.
The only exception to confidentiality is where I am concerned about:
• A child or young person’s safety
• Risk of harm to the client or others
• Safeguarding concerns under UK law
If a safeguarding concern arises, I would aim to discuss this openly with the client wherever possible and would follow appropriate safeguarding procedures. When working in schools, this includes liaising with the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in line with school policy.
Confidentiality and its limits are explained clearly at the start of counselling in an age-appropriate and accessible way.
Working With Adults
I offer counselling to adults in a supportive, confidential, and non-judgemental space.
My work is collaborative and client-led, allowing individuals to explore their experiences at their own pace. I work ethically, within my professional competence, and engage in regular clinical supervision in line with BACP requirements.
Working With Children, Young People & Schools
I also work with children and young people, including school-based counselling and pastoral support, in line with the BACP Ethical Framework and UK safeguarding guidance.
When working with children and young people:
• Counselling is age-appropriate and child-centred
• Parental or carer consent is obtained where required
• Confidentiality is explained clearly to both the young person and parent/carer
• Safeguarding procedures are followed at all times
• Work is reviewed regularly and discussed in supervision
Support offered in schools is pastoral and therapeutic, providing a safe space for emotional check-ins and support around wellbeing, bereavement, or emotional regulation. Where needs exceed what can be safely supported within school, appropriate referrals are made in consultation with safeguarding leads and parents/carers.
Ethical Framework
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
This means I am committed to:
• Working safely and ethically
• Respecting client autonomy
• Acting in the client’s best interests
• Maintaining appropriate boundaries
• Engaging in regular supervision and ongoing professional development
